Thanks for creating a Commons account and joining our course site. I’m excited to read your thoughts about music in each of your blogs throughout the semester. For example, here’s my introduction. Hi everyone! My name is Samuel Teeple and I’ll be teaching this course. I’m working on my PhD in Historical Musicology at the CUNY Graduate Center. One of my favorite composers is Felix Mendelssohn since I study German music in the 1800s–here’s the London Symphony Orchestra playing his piece The Hebrides, a work he composed in 1830 after spending time in Scotland near the sea.

  1. Hello everyone! My name is Punesha Roopnarine and I am currently a freshman at Queens College, expecting to graduate in 2026. I plan to major in Computer Science BS as well as do a minor in Data Analytics. I am someone who sticks to the songs of my culture, so my music genre falls under soca, chutney, reggae, dancehall, and Indian music, more specifically Bollywood music. One of my favorite soca artists is Kes. His music is feel-good music, something you can always enjoy and groove to.   4. Hey it’s nice to meet everyone. I’m Kai Jiang, a freshmen at QC.I’m currently majoring in Economics, but I’m still a bit undecided (just testing the waters sadly). Music has always been a large part of my life, so I ended up listening to a lot of genres such as, but not limited to classical, pop, lowfi, hip-hop, rock, EDM, ect. I also taught myself to play classical guitar in my free time, during quarantine. It’s hard for me to choose a specific favorite artist/composer.

  5. Hey everyone. I’m Susan Impellizzieri. I am a Freshman at QC. I’m majoring in Family and Comsumer Science and am going to be a teacher for this type of class. I was interested in taking this class because of my interest in music ever since a young age. My favorite music is 70s and 80s rock.

  9. Heyy! My name is Soja, Im a freshman and im planning on majoring into Computer science. I love learning new instruments and listening to music. I dont necessarily have a specific genre of music I always listen to, I guess it depends on what I’m doing at the moment. But currently my favorite song to listen to is Luna, amore e no by Piero Piccioni.   10. Hi!! I’m Katia, I’m a freshman at QC, and my major is undecided right now however, I’m interested in Drama and Psychology. I love all genres of music, mostly spanish, rap, and metal.   11. Hello, nice to meet everyone! I’m Joanne Sun, a freshman majoring in Biology. I listen to different genres of music, a few which are lo-fi, classical, and pop (including k-pop, j-pop, and c-pop). There isn’t really a specific type of music that I’m really into, and I would often listen to music to calm or motivate myself.

I had an interest in taking this class because I always had a love for music. I also used to play the drums. I started playing at 12 years old and now I have an interest in music production. At this moment I don’t have a specific artist that I like but a few are, Kanye West, Travis Scott, 50 cent, Asap Rocky, and Drake.

  23. Hi everybody, my name is Daniel Wahed. I’m a freshman at QC planning on majoring in Computer Science. I play guitar and piano a little bit and that’s mainly where my song preferences come from, I enjoy anything with one or both of those instruments in the song. Music that I listen to is based on emotions or how I’m feeling day-to-day so a lot of the songs that I listen to will be all instrumentals or with a lot of vocals. I don’t have a specific genre of music I like cause I like all kinds of music and enjoys them. I used to play violin, but then due to some personal issue, I stopped. It’s hard choosing a favorite song but overall I love music. I enjoy singing and playing various instruments as well as listening to music with any chance I get.

  29. Hi, my name is Anand Misir and I’m a freshman at Queens College. My major is currently English but I might change it soon. I’ve been playing guitar for three years. I don’t think I could pick a favorite song but I do have an extreme love of music, especially hard rock and heavy metal and I don’t think I could live without it.
